Dear KCET Member,
In my life, I have discovered that the one consistent thing in this world is change. These last 12 months have been no exception - not only have we witnessed a historic presidential election full of twists and turns, we have also experienced great disruptions in the local, national and global economy. Through it all, KCET has remained constant - a smart, insightful and responsible source for the best news and entertainment on television. We have done it with an understanding that, in a media environment too often defined by dumbed-down escapist programming, KCET viewers deserve an oasis of enlightenment.
So, in this last month of what has been a very tumultuous year, I am glad that KCET can offer respite from the cares of the world and provide our viewers with some programs that will spark that wonderful emotion we know as joy. Whether it is losing yourself to the strains of Tchaikovsky in San Francisco Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker, dancing to the tunes of great hit songs from Love Train: The Sound of Philadelphia, Part 1, taking in the live broadcast of the Los Angeles County Holiday Celebration at the Music Center or a host of other memorable performance programs, December is a time for joy.
KCET exists because our steadfast supporters provide us with nearly 90 percent of our operating budget. It is difficult to measure the full impact that things such as inspiration, quality journalism, the arts and culture and historical perspective have on our society. But during this past year, we have all witnessed events that remind us just how important these things are. If you consider just how many members of our society KCET is able to touch, you realize that KCET is a great philanthropic value. So, as we embrace change and look to the future, I ask that you make a special consideration for KCET to help us continue to provide our vital community service and make an additional yearend gift. With your generous contribution, we can engage our viewers in the changes that we all face and help create a brighter future for us all.
