 POSITION SUMMARY

The coordinator reports to and assists the director of education with the implementation and coordination of the Departures Youth Voices media literacy and community engagement program at various community sites.

 

Departures Youth Voices is a digital literacy and civic engagement program that invites youth on an exploration of their neighborhood, where they investigate the social, cultural, and political history and take a critical look at the issues facing their community.  Students are encouraged and provided opportunities to become leaders and advocates for their community.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

·         Instructor for the Youth Voices program in both formal and informal classroom settings.

·         Prepares and maintains materials for the Youth Voices program

·         Maintains quantitative and qualitative systems to monitor and measure the scope and effectiveness of the program

·         Interfaces with community partners through all phases of the program and fosters established relationships with community stakeholders, teachers and students

·         Provides technical support for the Youth Voices website to program participants

·         Works closely with the director of education and the website editor to monitor and update the content of the Youth Voices website

·         Works closely with the director of education and the social media coordinator to promote Youth Voices content (via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) including scheduling and drafting messages

·         Assists with drafting and publishing content for the Youth Voices website and related communications outlets

·         Contributes to advancing the mission of Departures Youth Voices

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS (OVERALL)

·         Excellent verbal, writing, and researching skills

·         Excellent PC skills using Microsoft Windows

·         Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign

·         Knowledge of web content management platforms

·         Knowledge of social media strategies for the promotion of content

·         Strong attention to detail

·         Extremely well organized with excellent time-management/multi-tasking skills

·         Enjoy working with diverse student populations

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team

·         Must be a licensed CA driver and able to drive to project sites

      JOB REQUIREMENTS (SPECIFIC)

·         Bachelors degree in education (media literacy, digital media, technology, etc.,) journalism, public policy, urban planning, or equivalent

·         1-2 years teaching or facilitating programs for youth (grade 6-12)

·         1 year administrative or clerical experience
