KCET Launches 50th Anniversary Community Kiosk Exhibit

The Rink in Downtown Burbank and California Plaza

Named Inaugural Hosts

Community Kiosk Asks Angelenos 'How Do You Envision a Better State?'

BURBANK & LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Nov. 25, 2014 - KCET, the nation's largest independent public television station, has partnered with the Downtown Burbank Partnership and Grand Performances to celebrate KCET's 50th anniversary and its commitment to the community by hosting a special multimedia community exhibit.

The exhibit is a traveling arts and education kiosk which takes the public through historical touch points of the region, and KCET's 50-year legacy of serving the interests of Southern and Central California audiences.

The Downtown Burbank Partnership will host the KCET community kiosk at The Rink in Downtown Burbank, a festive holiday destination, which includes outdoor ice skating, themed nights and special performances. The kiosk debuts at The Rink on Friday, Nov. 28 and will remain on-site until Friday, Dec. 12.  The Rink is located corner of North 3rd Street and East Orange Grove Avenue, Burbank, 91502. For more information, visit www.dtnbur.com.

Grand Performances will host the kiosk on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. at California Plaza, located at 350 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles, 90071. The performing arts venue will be presenting Elvis Schoenberg's Orchestre Surréal of the holiday classic "The Nightmare before Christmas" at 2 p.m. For more information on Grand Performances, visit www.grandperformances.org.

The interactive kiosk, measuring 84" L x 84" W x 84" H, will prompt community members to answer the question: "How do you envision a better state?" KCET staff will be on-hand at various times during the exhibition period to conduct on-camera interviews, raffles and answer questions. Some community responses will be showcased on-air and online at www.kcet.org/50.

"We are so pleased that The Downtown Burbank Partnership and Grand Performances are hosting our community kiosk and helping to strengthen our region's cultural fabric, allowing our viewers to become a part of the conversation," said Mary Mazur, KCETLink's Chief Operating Officer. "We are also grateful to our Community Advisory Board for identifying important locations in the city where the kiosk can be displayed, create a sense of community, and educate people about our history."

KCET marked the important 50-year milestone on Sept. 28. 2014, with a celebration that included a variety of multi-platform programming and initiatives.

The kiosk, created by KCET and local environmental designer Melissa Castellano, was built by fabricators Dave's Signs and Tortoise Industries.
