KCET Rebroadcasts BBC World News Special on the Death of Osama bin Laden Today at 3 p.m.
WHAT: KCET has pre-empted some of its regularly scheduled programming both last night and today to provide special coverage of the death of Osama bin Laden.
At 3 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, KCET will rebroadcast special news coverage from its distribution partner BBC, featuring the best of the network's reports about the death of al-Qaeda's Osama bin Laden at the hand of U.S. Special Forces. The station initially aired the live hour-long coverage at 11 a.m. today.
The BBC coverage of this breaking Osama bin Laden news is exclusive to KCET in the Southern California market.
WHEN: May 2, 2011 at 3 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (Initially broadcast live at 11 a.m.)
WHY: Since separating from PBS in January, KCET, the nation's largest independent public media company, is able to act in a more nimble capacity to best serve the interests of its viewers, particularly as it relates to timely news coverage that directly impacts their lives.
Last night, KCET broke into its regularly scheduled programming to carry President Obama's speech about bin Laden's death with live coverage from the BBC that began at 9 p.m. May 1, 2011. At 10:30 p.m. the station joined Al Jazeera English's special coverage which the station aired throughout the early morning.
