KCET Celebrates Spring With New Special Music Programs Beginning June 2

Los Angeles - May 25, 2010- Musical legends Carole King, James Taylor, Gloria Estefan, Pavarotti, Celine Dion, Cher, Toni Braxton and more during KCET's spring fundraising drive beginning Wednesday, June 2.. Performances by the eclectic and world renowned Pink Martini will also be featured.

James Taylor and Carole King

Wednesday, June 2 (8:00 - 9:30 p.m.) - Carole King -James Taylor: Live at the Troubadour. It's been 40 years since they first played together at the Troubadour on Santa Monica Boulevard, but two musical legends -- Carole King and James Taylor -- share the stage once again at the famed music club in the new special program.In November 2007, James Taylor, Carole King and members of their renowned original band (featuring guitarist Danny Kortchmar, bassist Leland Sklar and drummer Russell Kunkel) returned to the Troubadour for a three-night, six-show run to celebrate the venue's 50th anniversary. Those historic and unforgettable shows are documented in Live at the Troubadour, featuring 12 songs, including stunning performances of the pair's most beloved hits: Carole King's "So Far Away," "It's Too Late" and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" and James Taylor's "Carolina in My Mind," "Sweet Baby James" and "Fire and Rain," to name just a few.

Saturday, June 5 (7:00 - 8:30 p.m.) - Pink Martini Live- Discover the World premieres on KCET The 12-piece "little orchestra" Pink Martini is a combination of a 1930s Cuban dance orchestra, a classical chamber music ensemble, a Brazilian marching street band and Japanese film noir. In the concert special Pink Martini Live- Discover the World, the band moves effortlessly through a variety of tunes that serve as a throw back to the big-band days with a mix of romantic French ballads and sultry Latin tunes. Pianist and founder Thomas Lauderdale and vocalist China Forbes share their feelings about each tune in short backstage interviews that are interlaced.

Diane Warren

Saturday, June 5 (8:30 - 10:30 p.m.) - Diane Warren: Love Songs featuring performances by the Queen of Latin pop, Gloria Estefan; R&B greats Eric Benét, Toni Braxton and Fantasia; jazz legends Mindi Abair and Patti Austin; and country star LeAnn Rimes performing some of Warren's biggest hits. There are also special guest appearances by Jane Fonda, Celine Dion, Cher and legendary record producer Clive Davis. Daisy Torme and Gregory Zarian with special Guests Diane Warren, Due Voci and Mark and Kristin from KOST will serve as the in studio hosts for the program.
