Burbank, CA - February 27, 2013 - KCET, the nation's largest independent television station serving Southern and Central California, is pleased to announce that the station's original program, Your Turn to Care, has been honored with the esteemed Gracie Award® for Outstanding Series in the Local, Online, Public, and Student category.
Your Turn to Care explores the challenges facing America's growing generation of baby boomers who are taking care of ailing or aging loved ones. Hosted by acclaimed actress and award-winning author Holly Robinson Peete, who also shares her own experiences of caring for her father who had Parkinson's disease, the series features several expert voices across Southern California to help contextualize complex caregiving issues for viewers. In addition, the program highlights personal caregiving stories from well-respected actors, television personalities, and journalists including: Patricia Richardson (Home Improvement), Monica Potter (Parenthood), Hector Elizondo (Last Man Standing), Robert David Hall (CSI Crime Scene Investigation), Sandra Tsing Loh (NPR's Morning Edition, KPCC) and Steve Lopez (Los Angeles Times columnist).
Last May, KCET announced a syndication agreement with American Public Television (APT) to distribute Your Turn to Care which began airing on public television stations across the country on July 1, 2012. The series represents KCET's first large-scale national distribution initiative since becoming independent.
Your Turn to Care is produced by KCET with executive producer Margaret Hussey, and Bret Marcus, KCET Senior Vice President of News and Factual Programming. The initiative is made possible by MetLife Foundation, California Community Foundation, The Lippey Family Trust and Gladyce L. Foster.
Presented by the Alliance for Women in Media (AWM) Foundation, The Gracie Award® recognizes exemplary programming created for women, by women and about women in all facets of electronic media, as well as individuals who have made contributions to the industry. The awards program also encourages the realistic and multifaceted portrayal of women in entertainment, news, features and other programs.
The award will be presented during the Gracie Awards Luncheon on June 26, 2013, at the Hilton New York.

often emotional and heart-wrenching passage of life, while sharing her own
deeply personal caregiving experiences. The companion website, mobile
