Downeast - Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. PST/11 p.m. EST

Set during an era of U.S. post-industrialization in which numerous factories have been exported, Downeast focuses on a Boston businessman's plan to reopen a local plant in rural Maine as a lobster-packing facility, and rescue the community from the unemployment line. It seems like the perfect solution. To sweeten the deal, he is eligible for money from a $250,000 federal grant designed to help rebuild the local economy. But this is where everything hits a snag. The local government needs to approve the grant, and as it turns out, some of the politicians happen to work in the lobster industry. While the town shows its support for the newly opened plant, the leaders resist, putting their wallets before the good of the people. This film is a microcosm of the misguided political and social forces that often result in the loss of small businesses and jobs.
