Also, Bill Moyers sits down with SoCal Connected's Val Zavala to talk about first episodes of his highly anticipated new public affairs show in special segment airing exclusively on KCET Jan. 6, 2012 at 8:30 p.m

Los Angeles - December 12, 2011 - KCET, the nation's largest independent public television station serving Southern and Central California, has announced that veteran journalist Bill Moyers returns to KCET with his new series, "Moyers and Company," which debuts on KCET Jan. 13, 2012 at 8 p.m. and will air every Friday at the same time.

Moyers and Company, distributed through American Public Television, engages guests on intriguing topics ranging from politics and governance to faith and religion. The hour-long program features two segments: "one timely and one timeless interview," and includes an occasional essay as well.

In addition, leading up to the first show, KCET will present a special one-on-one interview with Moyers and SoCal Connected's Val Zavala which airs on Jan. 6, 2012 at 8:30 p.m. During the interview, Moyers talks about his new show's first episodes and what he calls the defining issue of our time--inequality. Some of his remarks during their discussion included:

  • "The have-nots now have less than they ever did... the have-it-alls now have more than they ever did. It's been a remarkable transformation in America from shared prosperity to kept prosperity where it's kept by the people at the top."

  • " ...When corporations become so powerful that they can write the rules by which democracy operates then you get not democratic capitalism but crony capitalism. That's the kind of capitalism that's taking us down."

  • "These are interesting people; they are very smart people. They are also monomaniacal people. That is, they see only one thing and this is making money. That's all they live for, that I can tell."

"Bill has been an important voice in KCET's news and public affairs schedule for many years. We are excited to welcome him back with his new series in his familiar Friday,

8 p.m. time slot, where KCET viewers have grown accustomed to seeing him," said Al Jerome, KCET's president and Chief Executive Officer.

Moyers, one of the most prolific public broadcasting figures for more than 40 years, is known for such groundbreaking series as NOW with Bill Moyers and Bill Moyers Journal.  He has been a senior news analyst for CBS News and senior correspondent for the acclaimed documentary series begun by Edward R. Murrow, CBS Reports. His work has received more than 35 Emmys and Moyers was presented the Lifetime Emmy Award in 2006 for "devoting his lifetime to the exploration of the major issues and ideas of our time and our country, giving television viewers an informed perspective on political and societal concerns."
