From the urban typography of street graffiti to the Pop art provocations, California’s visual arts are as diverse as its population. It was here, after all, that oil painters captured idyllic images of the new American West in the 1890’s and the Culture Wars of the 1990’s made canvases and gallery walls into battlefields.
