Feedback is a new traveling dance performance that will explore themes of artistic mobility, community immersion, and audience engagement. Using an Airstream trailer as the set, Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre will “feed” audiences performances that are crafted by their choices off the Feedback “menu.” A reaction to today’s fast-paced consumer atmosphere, the Feedback trailer will tour to public spaces throughout Southern California, potentially including recreation centers, schoolyards, transit centers, and parking lots. Within each diverse community the project visits, the Feedback “menu” will reflect the neighborhood, therefore delivering a performance of cultural and culinary significance. Individuals will be invited to participate in the creation of the work through “guest chef” roles, “customers,” and “special menu items.” Inspired by the current food truck movement, HDDT will expand arts engagement through the familiar lens of mobility and delivery.

Since the late 1980s, Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre (HDDT) has been placing art in unexpected places. By creating work outside of a traditional theatre, HDDT not only brings attention to the historical, architecturally significant, and unique spaces the company performs in, but also constantly engages new communities and populations. Through this creation of site-specific work, HDDT expands the performing arts field as whole and provides a fresh, enticing option to traditional visual art, dance, and performance.

Mission Statement – Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre (HDDT) creates ephemeral contemporary art experiences in extraordinary places that boldly redefine the relationship between audience and art. Through cultivating innovative collaborations with artists, arts organizations and local communities, HDDT brings meaningful interdisciplinary dance to new audiences throughout Los Angeles and the world.

Can you bring a work to an audience instead of an audience to the work? Using a 1961 Oasis trailer, Heidi Duckler is taking advantage of the sprawling seismic mobile climate of L.A. to connect private and public space through performance.
