On April 12th KCET Cinema Series screened Exporting Raymond, a hilarious documentary from writer/director/producer Phil Rosenthal. Rosenthal, creator of "Everybody Loves Raymond," was summoned to Russia to help adapt his beloved sitcom for Russian television. Embraced by audiences, the film earned the 2010 Austin Film Festival Audience Award for Best Feature, the first time a documentary has won that Award.
From Cinema Series:
Dispatched to Russia by Sony Pictures International to help recreate his successful series, Phil Rosenthal brings along a film crew to record what he hopes will be a fascinating process. Phil brings the audience along on his adventure with a winning combination of dry wit and wide-eyed disbelief, making "Exporting Raymond" a backstage pass into the chaotic, frustrating, inspiring and hilarious world of Russian relations, from the writers' room to casting sessions and production meetings with skeptical executives.
The lively, funny, and animated Phil Rosenthal joined host Pete Hammond for the Q&A session. Phil shared personal anecdotes about his parents (whose real-life antics were sometimes depicted by Marie & Frank Barone) and entertained the audience with answers to their questions about difficulties of translation, cultural differences, and show business in general.
The film opens in limited release on April 29th, 2011. See the film and tell your friends about it!
