June 26th, 7 PM: "People Like Us"
1328 Montana Ave.
Santa Monica, CA
"People Like Us" is the semi-autobiographical story from filmmakers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jody Lambert that's making the rounds with the much coveted monikor of "feel good hit of the summer".
Sam (Chris Pine) is a fast-talking, somewhat morally inept twenty-something whose latest business deal collapses on the very same day his estranged father suddenly passes away. After begrudgingly making his way back home to LA for the funeral and learning his bequeathment consists solely of old vinyls, Sam is tasked with delivering a shaving kit filled with $150,000 cash to the 30-year-old half-sister, Frankie (Elizabeth Banks), he never knew existed. As their relationship develops, with Frankie entirely unaware of their relation and Sam hesitant to hand over the money he so desperately needs himself, Sam is forced to rethink everything he thought he knew about his family and re-examine his own life choices in the process. Also starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Olivia Wilde, this is definitely one you won't want to miss!
