"Robot & Frank"
August 7, 7 PM
1328 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica
With technology increasingly weaving its way through our daily lives, it can become difficult to separate ourselves from our electronic devices -- sometimes literally! Jake Schreier's directorial debut 'Robot & Frank' imagines a world set in the near future where man and machine move beyond a sometimes reluctant symbiosis to form a surprising and tender friendship.
Frank (Academy Award nominee Frank Langella) is an aging father and retired jewel thief whose health and mind are slowly deteriorating. When his concerned children install a caretaker robot (voiced by Peter Saarsgard) in his home to tend to his physical and mental health, Frank is less than pleased. But the Robot soon proves himself a sophisticated and caring companion, leading a reinvigorated Frank to recruit the talents of his new friend in his favorite pastime: multi-million dollar jewel heists.
Winner of the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, this tender, bittersweet comedy also stars Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon, Liv Tyler, and James Marsden.
