"Silver Linings Playbook"
Q&A with director David O. Russell

The silver lining, arguably the greatest apparatus in an optimist's arsenal of positive thinking, is as welcome a sight as it is sometimes elusive. Director David O. Russell's latest is about one man's quest for the brighter side of life when darkness takes the lead.
In "Silver Linings Playbook," Pat Solatano (Bradley Cooper) finds himself living back at home with his parents (Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver) after an involuntary stint at a mental institution. Estranged from his wife and prohibited from contacting her after a violent reaction to her infidelity, Pat remains determined to stay positive and reconnect with her despite the rather obvious obstacles before him. But when he meets a young widow, Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), with her own set of problems and neuroses who offers to help him win back his wife in exchange for a favor of her own, together they begin to form a surprising bond that's at once both humorous and heartfelt.
Also starring Chris Tucker, Julia Stiles and Anupam Kher, "Silver Linings Playbook" is out in theaters November 21st, but KCET Cinema Series members get an advanced screening this Tuesday. Plus, acclaimed director David O. Russell ("The Fighter," "I Heart Huckabees," "Three Kings") joins host Pete Hammond for a Q & A after the screening!
