In one of Mother Nature's greatest lashings in modern history, a 9.0 earthquake in the Indian Ocean set off a series of deadly waves that would have horrific consequences in 11 countries, with nearly 300,000 lives claimed. "The Impossible" is the story of one family's harrowing experiences that December 26th, 2004 and their incredible journey of survival.
Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts star as Henry and Maria, British parents to three young boys on a family vacation in Thailand. On that morning after Christmas, all are swept up in the ensuing tsunami and must fight insurmountable odds, first, just to survive and, later, to reunite their separated and severely injured family. The kindness, devastation and heartbreak they encounter along the way sets the stage for an epic and emotional visual journey from Spanish director J.A. Bayona ("The Orphanage").
"The Impossible" is out on limited release on December 21st, but KCET Cinema Series members get an advanced preview tomorrow! Plus, leading man Ewan McGregor ("Trainspotting," "Beginners," "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen") will be there live in person for a Q & A with host Pete Hammond after the screening!
