"Won't Back Down"
Q&A with director Daniel Barnz
September 18, 7 PM
1328 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica
Two powerhouse actresses join forces as steadfast mothers on a mission in this week's KCET Cinema Series screening of Daniel Barnz's "Won't Back Down".
Jamie Fitzpatrick (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a bartender, and Nona Alberts (Academy Award nominee Viola Davis), a teacher, are mothers from different backgrounds facing similar adversities in their attempts to educate their children. Fed up with the apathy and corruption of the school board powers that be, they mobilize the community in their fight to transform their children's inner city school, and the neighborhood at large, for the better. Inspired by true events surrounding California's controversial parent trigger laws, the powerful and compelling "Won't Back Down" is out in theaters September 28th and is sure to get the national conversation on education reform rolling.
Director Daniel Barnz joins host Pete Hammond after the screening for a Q & A!
