Spring Sing originated from a fraternity quartet formed to serenade their favorite sorority. As one fraternity developed the reputation as the champion serenaders of sorority row, another challenged them to a singing contest. After the 1967 show, though, Spring Sing fell dormant for 10 years, until student and alumni interest revived the event in 1978.
In 1986, the Student Alumni Association became the organizers of the event in an effort to return the show to its previous grandeur, and have it represent the diversity of today's students. By 1989, Spring Sing moved outdoors to its current home in the Los Angeles Tennis Center and continues to grow; a sold-out audience of more than 4,000 attended the past two productions.
