A prelude to the American Documentary Film Festival (March 29-April 5), this screening of "Shining Night: A Portrait of Composer Morten Lauridsen" marks the film's world premiere. Directed by Michael Stillwater, the documentary explores the life and work of the distinguished composer of "O Magnum Mysterium" and Lux Aeterna."
From the event website:
Through the eyes of other composers, conductors, singers and music students, the story of Lauridsen unfolds -- and his music is performed -- by Volti, Con Anima, SF Choral Society, and Aberdeen (Scotland) University Choral Society, together with soundtracks from Polyphony, the Dale Warland Singers, and The Singers/Minnesota Choral Artists. Filmed in the United States and United Kingdom, "Shining Night" gives viewers a look into the private life of a most remarkable artist considered a genius in the field of musical creation.
Lauridsen will be in attendance, and the USC Chamber Singers will perform live after the screening.
