The Music Center celebrates the 100th anniversary of composer Igor Stravinsky and choreographer Vaslav Nijinsky's landmark work The Rite of Spring with three performances of the Joffrey Ballet's painstaking recreation of the original production.
From the event website:
The Joffrey's meticulous recreation of the historic production first debuted at The Music Center during the Joffrey's residency in Los Angeles in 1987. It took Millicent Hodson, along with collaborator and husband Kenneth Archer over 15 years to piece together original scores, paintings, reviews, notes and first-person accounts to unearth the alarming genius of the work. Two different programs will be presented, both of which will include The Rite of Spring. The opening-night program will also feature Christopher Wheeldon's After the Rain, and the second program will include William Forsythe's In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated.
