Long Beach may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of thick, hearty chowder. Yet the annual Best of the West Chowderfest, held disconcertingly close to the Aquarium of the Pacific, begs to differ. An array of local chefs from around L.A. county will be using a variety of sustainable seafood to create their Southern California-inspired takes on the classic East Coast dish. There will be urchin, lobster, crab, mussels and more, each combined with local produce from Weiser Family Farms. General admission tickets are $10, but can be packaged with admission to the aquarium for under $30.
