As part of their Visionary Development speaker series, in conjunction with the A. Quincy Jones exhibit, the Hammer presents a discussion with curator Donald Albrecht about the commercial strategies of selling homes to the Southern California middle class in the 1950s.

Modern architecture and design succeeded both because of the deliberate commercial strategies used to advocate for them--efficiency, power, and style--and through the subtler associations made between modernity, sexiness, and glamour in advertising, television, and film.
