Iconic LA photographer Julius Shulman is widely known and respected for his photographs of modern architectural homes. In this recent interview, Shulman explains how the people who lived in these buildings gave purpose and meaning to the idea of home.
I just received word that my good friend Julius Shulman passed away yesterday evening, July 15, 2009, at the age of 98.
Besides being an icon in the field of architectural photography, Julius was a kind and gentle man, with a quick wit and great sense of humor.
He will be sorely missed by his friends and family.

Julius Shulman was truly an extraordinary man. When I interviewed him for this photo essay he still had the energy and vivacity of a child - a bit mischievious and innocent at the same time. He helped many of us to see Los Angeles in a different way. He will be missed, but his images will continue to define all of us.
