Al Jerome
President & CEO,
KCET
“This has been a wonderfully uplifting experience for all of us, to see how very, very positively all of you have reacted
to KCEd.”

Next Steps
Not since my sophomore year in college have I taken thirty pages of notes. I had very high aspirations for this convening, but they were exceeded. I am very excited about what you've contributed today and I hope that you will continue to be part of this process.

Let me tell you about our next steps. We are going to integrate the great material that you have put forth today into our White Paper. We will, in essence, come out with a new edition, of which we will make certain you all get a copy.

We are in the process of putting together what I would call an entrepreneurial business plan for KCEd to present to funders. And clearly, reinforced by the consistent messaging we have received from you today, we will incorporate into the KCEd business plan, a comprehensive research model, including ongoing formative and summative research.

We then will hire an executive producer to help shape the project and produce a pilot or a demonstration video. And we will develop a proto companion website.

Outreach on the series will be comprehensive and multi lingual. It will include, in addition to an Internet component, a hotline, an 800 number that caregivers can call for assistance and obtain educational materials in an approach similar to our Ready-to-Learn efforts. We want people to identify themselves as part of the caregiving community that is in turn part of KCEd. So, whether they call us on the phone, send us their email addresses, or their home addresses, the fact is that both formal and informal caregivers will be a part of a community that we can reach out to continuously, whether to alert them as to shows that we are doing or topics and issues that they need to pay attention to.

As I mentioned last night, KCEd will be given to the other thirteen public television stations in the State of California. Following the model of our series CALIFORNIA CONNECTED, we will endeavor coordinated scheduling of the broadcasts - hopefully, with a frequency of play across the state's public television stations, that it will appear as if we were offering the series as video on demand.

I will sign off by saying that I am deeply indebted to you. Our staff at KCET and our Board has been working on this, for close to two years. This has been a wonderfully uplifting experience for all of us, to see how very, very positively all of you have reacted to KCEd. We promise to keep you in the process. We need your help. We need your thinking. We will send you all of the materials as we develop them and I hope that together we can go the last mile.

Thank you very much, and here is Jim. Thanks a lot.
