“If we are going to make this happen, we can't forget who we are and what we represent.”

An Appreciation
I just want to thank all of you for being here, at Cal State Los Angeles. I know that it was not only intellectually stimulating, but for some of you it was very exciting and adventurous. I trust that that means that this will be a convening that you will never forget - and that you will continuously contribute to KCEd both creatively and intellectually.

I want you to know that my involvement with KCET is enlightened self-interest. I want you to remember that leveraging resources that already exist can make a difference, too. I'm a huge resource that can be even leveraged further, as is an Ann Barbour, or a Diane Klein.

So please remember that there are resources currently available - human, intellectual, arms and legs - individuals trying to get to where you are, people who would see this as a great opportunity to participate and provide support and assistance. A lot of us are in environments with caregivers and in childcare centers with our students who need supervised environments in order to become professionals. If we are going to make this happen, we can't forget who we are and what we represent. We are resources. And the professionals who will take our places are coming through these centers now. We need to get them as energized as we are.

I want to thank you for re-energizing me, on behalf of what I do on a volunteer basis. Most people don't realize that what I get involved with from a volunteer perspective has a direct line to what I do here at this institution and what we try to do on behalf of children and youth in this nation, as well. So, thank you for being here. I look forward to the fruits of these deliberations and I will do my very best to try to ensure that our KCET Board, stays the course. Thank you.
