Where Should Parking Meter Money Go?
Last updated: December 12, 2007
Reporter's NOTES
Val Zavala
I admit that I do not have an over-riding faith in city bureaucracies or urban planners. But the story about how parking meters turned a dumpy, dangerous old Pasadena into the trendy and pedestrian-packed retail bonanza helped restored my faith (somewhat).
I had no idea what a science parking policy is! Or that there are people who are actually passionate about parking — like parking guru Professor Donald Shoup of UCLA.
He has written volumes on the subject. Okay, they aren’t bestsellers, but an article that tells the story of Old Town Pasadena’s comeback is what inspired me to email him.
In the meantime, don’t forget to take plenty of quarters when you head to Old Town Pasadena — all of which goes to keep the sidewalks clean, the trees trimmed, etc., etc., etc. Have fun!
