A weekly guide showing you what museum exhibitions are opening this week around Southern California.

The Getty Center
Illuminated manuscripts, or illustrated versions of text, were in high demand during the Gothic Period in Europe, which lasted from about 1200-1350.

Gothic Grandeur: Manuscript Illumination, 1200-1350
, a new exhibition at the Getty, "showcases a range of books, from lavish prayer volumes and Bibles, to illustrated scientific texts and romances." The Getty also obtained the Abbey Bible, considered a pinnacle of gothic illumination. It will be on display as a part of the exhibit.
