It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Hearst Castle in San Simeon, Calif!
The museum and former home to media mogul William Randolf Hearst is a popular tourist spot, and while it looks majestic any time of year, the holidays are an especially good time to visit the estate and marvel in its festive glory.
Every Christmas the Hearst staff decorates the mansion to look like in it might have in the 1920s and '30s, according to the Hearst Castle website. During the evening tour, castle docents don 1930's period clothing to transport visitors back in time to the glorydays of the castle. Could you imagine waking up on Christmas morning to presents not one, but ten Christmas trees?
What else can you expect to see at the museum this holiday season? From the Heart Castle Facebook page:
"Hearst Castle's halls are decked with 10 Christmas trees, including two 18' trees in the Assembly Room. Thousands of lights, hundreds of poinsettias, 40 wreaths, and 700' of garland are festively strewn throughout the estate."
For anyone planning a trip up to the Hearst Castle this month, the staff recommend taking the The Grand Rooms Tour and the Evening Tour to maximize the Christmassy cheer. But you have to hurry, reservations fill up quickly and the decorations come down on January 3, 2012!
Call (800) 444-4445 to make a reservation or use the museum's online reservation service.
