Uncle Darrow's: Oyster Po' Boy and Cajun Pups

Welcome to Free Lunch, "Where You're the Reviewer." This week we had the pleasure of taking kcet.org commenter, as well as public media maven, Taylor Orci to a cajun creole eatery in Marina del Rey - Uncle Darrow's.

Taylor is both a journalist and a comedian with many irons in the digital fire. Click on any of the aforementioned links if you'd like to see what we mean.

As you'll see in our video, Taylor ordered an oyster po' boy along with bean-balaya, cajun pups and banana puddin'. It was quite a feast and to her surprise, she enjoyed all of it. Unfortunately for us, we were too busy keeping up with Taylor to sample the fare, but her enthusiasm for the po' boy made us want to go back. We also like the fact that Uncle Darrow's provides healthy alternatives that remain true to their Creole roots.

Oyster Po' Boy from Uncle Darrow's

Side Order: Golden Cajun Pups

Side Order: Bean-Balaya

Dessert: Banana Puddin'

Despite (or due in part to) its location on heavily trafficked Lincoln Boulevard, Uncle Darrow's is easy to miss. The good news is that there's ample parking in the back of the building which also happens to be the main entrance. The atmosphere is quite lively and from what we understand there's live music on occasion.

Well, that's it for this week, but we'd really like to hear from you. What do you think about this week's video?

Please post your comments below, and by doing so you'll become eligible to participate in Free Lunch. Also, if you have some restaurant recommendations for us, please add them to this discussion.

Keep on Lunching!

Uncle Darrow's is one of our favorite Saturday lunch stops. Live jazzy music on the back patio, best creole food around and a staff that is over the top where service is concerned.

I've been looking for an Oyster Po Boy forever! These pictures are very enticing and now I'm going to Uncle Darrow's!

Oysters are one of my favorite food groups...as is dessert :) Everything looks delicious. Amazing work, Taylor, I'm totes hungry now.
