About Free Lunch

Free Lunch is KCET.org's new food initiative! The idea is pretty simple: once a week we treat one of our kcet.org commenters to lunch at a reasonably-priced restaurant in the Los Angeles area.

To become eligible, all you need to do is leave us a comment below telling us you're interested. We will meet you at a restaurant of our mutual choosing and simply ask that you allow us to tape you afterward talking about your lunch experience. This short 3-minute video of you reviewing the restaurant will be posted here at kcet.org/socal/food/freelunch for other people to see. Here's a little video we made about this program:

PLEASE NOTE: there's no need to leave your contact info in the comments, we will email you at the email address you use to register with kcet.org.

We're looking for unbiased, SOCAL consumers to share their honest opinions with us and our audience. Free Lunch is about food, but we want it to be both fun and transparent. If you have a relationship to a given restaurant, please DO NOT request or agree to a lunch there so that we can avoid any possible conflicts of interest. We welcome chefs, bloggers and journalists, but we ask that you do not use this program as a marketing or publicity opportunity for yourself or any business.

Best regards,

The KCET Food Team

I would love to do this. I live in one of L.A.'s most walkable neighborhoods, directly under the Hollywood sign. We have several delightful restaurants nearby. Let's walk to lunch together!

user-pic

I am very interested!!! While I work in the business, there are many times when I find myself only eating cheese and don't get out for some real dining!!! This is an awesome idea!

user-pic

Sign me up! I'm a fan of exploring Los Angeles and all the tasty bounty this city has to offer :D

WooO!

user-pic

I love food and I love talking about it! I teach middle school and if I didn't love what I do so much, I would definitely want to be a food critic! :)

user-pic

This is exactly what I want to do with my life. I'm a writer, blogger, traveler and food enthusiast. I would love to team up with KCET and showcase a restaurant I have yet to visit. There are so many places I have yet to nosh at!

user-pic

This is such a GREAT idea. I have a weekly internet show about tacos at www.talkmedianetworks.com but I will pretty much eat anything.

I would actually pay for my lunch for the opportunity to eat with you guys. :)

user-pic

I'm interested in doing a food review. I enjoy trying new places.

user-pic

Thanks everyone for your interest in Free Lunch. Please continue to share your thoughts and great input with us. We look forward to meeting some of you in person as we continue to produce Free Lunch every week.

user-pic

I like free lunch, and im a magician, guess what? I can make food disappear very fast, lol.

user-pic

YES, I would love to get a free lunch and have you watch me eat...I promise not to talk with my mouth full. I love LA restaurants! pickmepickmepickme!!!

user-pic

Food: One of my favorite topics. I can't imagine anything better than a free lunch and getting to talk about it- especially if it's good! I'm definitely interested. Cheers, KCET!

I'd love to do this! I'm all about good food and sharing them.

user-pic

I love trying out new restaurants and then telling people how I feel about them in hopes that they will try them too

user-pic

this is great real people that work in the business that now what happening back there , that know when the shit goes down in a place , avoid valentine days or sat night dont go asking for DOS or SOS . and like me a go to a place a i want to taste their food.. im done with Caesar salad , sliders ,blue cheese burger with bacon on brioche etc or the korean mexican taco (kogi still amazing) and hate the fuzion with an american clientele in mind
i wanna see more bottarga more balck food (as in color) squid ink ,octopus , black rice etc

user-pic

Woot. What a good idea. Reviews from real people are so much better than having to look up where to eat on your phone! And eating free is awesome too.

user-pic

This is fantastic & reminds me of WTTW's Check, Please! http://www.wttw.com/main.taf?p=1,49,1 It's great seeing the "common (wo)man" with some interest in food, giving a (half) honest opinion. Even better is the actual production, shot with some KCET expertise and nicely edited. We're all tired of the rather sad iPhone restaurant "reviews".

user-pic

This sounds like a lot of fun! It would be a nice step into the journalism/food review realm for me!

user-pic

I love to eat and would love to participate to put 27 years of eating expertise to use. :)

user-pic

I eat lunch daily. I'm always hungry & ready to give my fair & honest opinion.

Would love to help KCET explore a piece of our diverse food scene here in LA! Love it!

user-pic

i am interested!!

user-pic

This sounds like a super great idea. I'd love to participate!

user-pic

I would love to participate in the free lunch. Not just because it's free, but because I love trying new food. In fact, I am up for trying a restaurant that serves insects such as fried grasshoppers. :)

user-pic

I would absolutely love to participate. I work at USC and live in Brentwood, so can eat anywhere in between! Pick me, pick me, pick me! :)

user-pic

My friend Jason told me about this whole idea and I think its spectacular. There are so many great places in our neighborhood that we dont even know about! I would love to participate!

user-pic

Yes, yes, yes, please count me in.

user-pic

An elementary school teacher and a landscape architect, my wife and I enjoy watching this program, as it introduces us to new neighborhoods, cultures, and foods. Thank you.

user-pic

This is awesome! My fiancé and I would love to participate! We both love food (and drinks!) from all cultures and especially enjoy discovering exciting food and wine pairings.

user-pic

I want to dine with you, KCET. Let's lunch!

user-pic

I would love a lunch date with KCET!

user-pic

Me and my wife Rhea LOVE Free Lunch. Wed love to dine with you!

user-pic

My husband and brother love Free Lunch, I'm new to it. Would enjoy dining with you.

user-pic

Ya Man Free Lunch KCET Rules ; )

user-pic

I LOVE this idea..this will give me an opportunity to try out a restaurant I normally wouldn't frequent seeing as I'm a homebody.

user-pic

Free Lunch is an outstanding idea. I grew up eating my lunch with KCET watching Sesame Street & Mr. Roger's Neighborhood (ok, an early lunch), so why not one more time.

user-pic

I know I am a bit late (about 6 months), but I'd love a lunch date with KCET! I am an Eagle Rock native, but I'd love to show KCET around my favorite places in both LA and possibly the OC (you know, to change things up a bit!)
