Today park rangers announced that the state flower has peaked at California's most poppy-ulated area, the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve. But don't get too excited yet, they warned.
Outer Island Season to Open at Channel Islands National Park

Friday marks the first trip of the year to one of the so-called outer islands at Channel Islands National Park. Those three land masses--Santa Rosa, San Miguel and Santa Barbara--are far enough from the mainland that during winter, seas get a bit too rough for safe passage.

No More Waiting in the Heat: Scotty's Castle Now Taking Reservations

Visitors to Death Valley National Park can spare some sweat if they are planning to take an indoor tour of Scotty's Castle, a Spanish Colonial-style historic house built in the 1920s. Instead of braving the occasional two hour wait on busy days, tourists can reserve spots online or by phone.
