Since 2000 Adolfo Guzman-Lopez has been a full-time reporter at Southern California Public Radio 89.3FM. He has reported on the shortage of Los Angeles housing inspectors, the 25-year anniversary of L.A. punk rock, Conductor Esa Pekka Salonen's admiration of Mexican composer Sylvestre Revueltas, the high-profile felony trial of two Inglewood police officers, and on-location reports of the violent May Day protests in Los Angeles in 2007.
His radio features have also aired nationally and internationally. In the late 1990s he was a freelance writer for newspapers such as the San Diego Union-Tribune and the Chicago Tribune. But the Siren call of radio lured him. With radio producer Sara Harris he runs the L.A. radio documentary collective RadioSonideros. In 2007, the Los Angeles Press Club named Adolfo its "Radio Journalist of the Year."
In 1994 he co-founded the performance-poetry collective The Taco Shop Poets. For a decade the group performed in taco shops and cultural centers in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, San Antonio, Chicago and New York City. The group was featured in the Sundance featured documentary Americanos. Adolfo's poetry has been anthologized in Geography of Rage: Remembering the Los Angeles Riots of 1992, Beyond Baroque Vol. 26, No. 2, Citiworks 2008 and Chorizo Tonguefire.
He continues to wander the sidewalks, streets and freeways of Southern California searching for the right words for the sounds he hears.
