A new study of annual CO(2) cycles in the Northern Hemisphere suggests that the Earth's climate may be destabilizing in ways we hadn't anticipated.

The American Meteorological Society (AMS) has released an annual report on the world's changing climate, and the news is just about as bad as you might expect. 2012 was one of the ten warmest years on record worldwide, and the warmest year on record in the United States.

California's greenhouse gas cap and trade program will basically merge with similar program in Quebec in January. If a Tuesday announcement by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) is any indication, Australia may be next.

The U.S. Senate voted today to confirm Regina "Gina" McCarthy as administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The long-delayed confirmation had been a bargaining chip in a partisan battle over the Obama administration's energy policy.

California's Air Resources Board has just released the results of its February auction of greenhouse gas emissions allowances, and it would seem the price of polluting isn't going up by much.

A rise in temperature of 1.5°C may well be enough to trigger widespread melting of the earth's permafrost, which holds twice the greenhouse gases already contained in the Earth's atmosphere. And we're already almost halfway there.

California's landmark carbon emission credit trading program won a round in state court late last week, as Judge Ernest Goldsmith tossed out a suit against the California Air Resources Board that would have sent the cap and trade program back to the drawing board.
Government:
California Governor Jerry Brown's State of The State address Thursday morning included a detailed, hard-headed assessment of the threat climate change poses the state. But those looking for hints about new state energy policies for 2013 likely came away disappointed.
