Sierra Leone is one of the world?s poorest countries. The mission hospital of St John of God is staffed by German doctors and nurses who come here during their holidays to care for patients. The hospital is in the interior and one of the few intact medical facilities in the country. During their three-week stay the German staff have to perform countless operations. The doctors treat serious infectious diseases, injuries and deformities. For some patients this is their last chance of staying alive.
