Captivated by the rich culture and cuisine of Malaysia, celebrity chef and host Todd English crosses the world to discover the exotic flavors, time-honored customs and multi-ethnic culture of this Southeast Asian country. Local experts - a food blogger, a restaurant owner and chefs- provide English with backstage access to the culinary delights of Malaysian cuisine, which blend Chinese, Indian and Taiwanese influences. He travels to a small fishing village outside of Penang to learn about blanchan (dried shrimp paste), an essential ingredient in Malaysian cooking; visits the city of Ipoh to feast on a one-of-a-kind noodle dish made with water from the nearby Gua Tempurung caves, and explores the capital of Kuala Lumpur, where he creates clay pot dishes, dines on creative street food and samples a "flaming zombie" cocktail at a rooftop bar. Later, in the kitchen of his New York City restaurant, Todd seeks to integrate the culinary techniques, ideas and inspiration collected during his travels and put his own spin on a Malaysian-style curry.
