Globe Trekker Special: World War II in the Pacific Islands
The "Trekkers" explore the epic events of World War II by visiting key locations in the Pacific, a region where great battles where fought and military history was made. This episode begins at Pearl Harbor on the island of Oahu, then moves to Chuuk Lagoon in Micronesia, the base for Japanese operations against Allied forces in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands and today a scuba-diving paradise, drawing wreck diving enthusiasts from around the world. Other sites include the Solomon Islands, Bikini Island, the remote village of Kokoda in Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Saipan and Tinian, a small island in the Northern Marianas archipelago and the take-off point for the Enola Gay's mission. The episode wraps up with a moving visit to Japan and the Nagasaki Peace Park.
