Noni Olabisi's paintings depict the endurance of spirit maintained by Africans born in America and speaks to the need to continue the perseverance for justice and equality. Her work examines the conditions and experience of African American people, the effects of slavery and the power of transcendence and transformation. She was commissioned by the Office of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angeles to create a mural for the William Grant Still Art Center, and has worked with the Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC).
