Kathryn Bigelow may win an Oscar for Best Director next month for her film The Hurt Locker. That would make her the first female director to win an Academy Award. In fact, less than 10 percent of the films Hollywood produces are directed by women. Female executives run huge corporations and serve in high government offices, so why is the movie business so reluctant to let women direct their motion pictures?
