All of the current problems community colleges have could seem minor if an initiative on this year's ballot doesn’t pass. Proposition 30 would hike sales and income taxes to cover holes in the state budget, but if citizens vote it down, automatic cuts at all levels of education in California are triggered. The community college system alone could lose half a billion dollars.
