Young & Uninsured

While young people generally enjoy good health, some inevitably get sick with serious or life-threatening illnesses. Yet a huge number of young Americans either can't get health insurance, can't afford it, or just don't think it's worth the cost. Correspondent Lisa Ling reports on how that's endangering not just individuals, but the entire health care system.

I don't understand. wouldn"t a graduate student at Northridge have insurance coverage? My daughhter is at UCLA and is 22. Now she has my insurance which is very good. it is Motion Picture Health insurance. When she turns 23 she will only have UCLA insurance. Isn't that good enough. She has no illnesses now. My other Daughter is 26 and has blue cross. but only pays $50 a month . How good could it be?

This was a very touching story. I hope it opens the eyes of our youth. Health insurance is so important. As an oncology nurse, I have learned cancer has no boundaries.
Dr. Klein, you are amazing!

Finally a feel good story about doctor's who care and sincerely take interest in their patient's care. I only wish we had more people in the world like you, Dr. Klein. It's a sad day for society when our youth, who are taking the right path in life, trying to better themselves and better our world, can't afford healthcare for serious medical problems. My eyes have just been opened and hope and faith increased.

I think this was a very good story; there are thousands of young uninsured. I have people in my own family in this category and getting medical care is very difficult. Thank you Dr Klein and KCET for being willing to put together this story and show the human side of this very difficult issue.

This is such a great piece and so appropriate for the times.
I know so many young people who are in this position and share this way of thinking....this was an excellent way to educate the public and shed some light on this issue.

This is a well-crafted piece that really hits home.

Great job!
