Very small-minded article. By this logic, we should get rid of airports and spend the money we save for local buses. There's no either-or here. Either we are a world-class state or a third-world one. Mr Unger has evidently never ridden on the TGV trains in Europe or Japan, if he thinks the only use for them is a capuccino in North Beach or some such elitist nonsense. There are many practical economic business needs for a fuel-efficient modality such as bullet trains as opposed to air travel.
