Gov. Jerry Brown was first elected governor of California in 1974. He won a close election over then state Controller Houston Flournoy, garnering just 50 percent of the votes to Flournoy's 47 percent. Much has changed in California since then, and some things about Brown have changed too. But what's old is often new again, and some of Brown's refrains from his first term as governor sound familiar today.
