This new public television series documents the life of former Secretary of State George Shultz, providing a rare close-up look at this remarkable man who served his country at the highest level during an unforgettable time. The three-hour series offers a never-before-seen look at the inner workings of the Reagan White House, capturing the intrigue and infighting as advisors vie for the ear of the President over historic issues such as Iran/Contra and the Star Wars Strategic Defense Initiative. Through the vivid memories of George Shultz, other cabinet members, journalists and historians, the gripping tensions of these times come to life; the fear of war in the Middle East, the shock of the barracks bombing that killed 220 Marines in Lebanon, the collapse of the Marcos regime in the Philippines and the delicate manipulations of summitry that helped determine the future of peace in the world. For the first time viewers will see Shultz' dedicated efforts to protect his President and expose those in the White House who plotted the illegal Iran/Contra scheme. Through historical recreation, archival film and exclusive interviews with those who shaped the Reagan/Shultz years, this series reveals the accomplishments of one of America's great Secretaries of State.
