“Restless Empire: China and the World Since 1750”
On September 12, 2012, Odd Arne Westad, professor at the London School of Economics, discussed with a WAC-DC audience his analysis of China’s relationship with the rest of the world and what this tells us about potential future Chinese policies. He argues that understanding China's history is important to understanding it's place in the modern world. China has proven resourceful and adaptable when adjusting to changes from the outside world, which has contributed to its dramatic economic growth. While some believe that China is on a path to rival America, developing a strong presence in the world, China is unlikely to take over America's role completely.
