“Syria: The Fall of the House of Assad”
On September 25, 2012 Dr. David Lesch, Professor of Middle East History at Trinity University, presented an in-depth look at Syrian President Bashir al-Assad and insight into the crisis in Syria. In his book, Dr. Lesch Syria: The Fall of the House of Assad, Dr. Lesch charts the path of President Assad, from when he came to power in 2000 with the hopes of many to bring long awaited reform, to the decline into turmoil and the escalating use of violence by the state which has engulfed the country since the spring of 2011. His analysis is informed by a series of first-hand interviews with the president, conducted between 2004 and 2009. This program provides the viewers with a level of insight uncommon on the subject.
