Her Story: Wife, mother and scientist, Barbara Whitmarsh's full life began to slowly slip away. When her husband first noticed changes he thought she was simply drifting away from their marriage or under stress at work. Barbara was diagnosed with a brain disease called Frontotemporal Degeneration and two years ago was forced to quit her job. She now depends on her husband and family for all of her care. The disease affects social interactions and language so Barbara has trouble relating to the grandchildren she always wanted. There is no cure for FTD.
John Whitmarsh' wife is afflicted with a form of dementia called frontotemporal degeneration. He shares his story about caring for wife as she suffers from this degenerative disease.
