His Story: Bernie is a retired merchandizing manager. Although Bernie and Phyllis were already separated when she fell ill back in 1981, Bernie was there to help. He has never really stopped looking after his ex-wife. Recently, when Bernie and his daughter Stacy became concerned about Phyllis' ability to manage living alone, he suggested they check out the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aged.
