Her Story: Sonia works for a counseling service that counsels pregnant women on birth defects. Caring for her mother at home became increasingly more difficult. They had to put locks on the kitchen and bathroom cabinets and remove anything that might be unsafe. As time went on, her mother couldn't be left alone. Caring for her mother was affecting Sonia both physically and emotionally. Finally, she and her brother realized that the best place for their mother was in an assisted living facility.
Reflections: "Our relationship is changed because at home I was always don't touch that and leave that alone. This way, I can just be her daughter and focus on loving her."
