KCET's thrice-yearly screening series is back! Join us as we preview eight major new films prior to their first run local release.
Hosted by nationally recognized film expert Pete Hammond, the KCET Cinema series allows you to review the best of Hollywood, independent and foreign films Tuesday nights at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica. A lively Q & A follows each screening with the filmmakers and top movie talent.
June 15 is our opening night, featuring Cyrus. This series will also include Love Ranch, based on the real life story of Grace and Charlie Bontempo, who opened the first brothel in Nevada. We'll also be showing Get Low, based on the life of a hermit who lived for forty years in the Tennessee woods.
We have added two new ways you can sign-up for the series and reserve your seats. We've included limited "reserve seating," so you don't have to rush to the theatre to get a good seat. You can also reserve the Academy's private "Green Room" for the entire series.

Cyrus is the story of a lonely divorcee John played by John C. Reilly, who upon finding out about his ex-wife's (Catherine Keener) impending nuptials has the unlikely fortune of meeting the enchanting Molly (Marisa Tomei). Their chemistry is immediate, but her best friend and the man in her life is her 21 year old son. Soon John and the son are locked in battle for Molly's love and attention.

A fictional story loosely based on the real life account of Grace and Charlie Bontempo, the husband and wife team who opened the first brothel in Nevada. The film stars, Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci as the Botempos, and is directed by Mirren's husband, award-winning director Taylor Hackford. A film with lots of romance, sizzle, passion and murder.

The incredible true and surprisingly funny story of Washington superstar lobbyist Jack Abramoff whose schemes to peddle influence in the highest corridors of power lead to corruption, murder and his downfall. Stars two time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey in a tour-de-force performance and co-stars Kelly Preston and Jon Lovitz. Certain to be one of this fall's major awards contenders.

The Kids are All Right Focus Features
A smash hit at the Sundance Film Festival and opening night film of the Los Angeles Film Festival. This terrific comedy/drama charts the ups and downs of the relationship of a married couple played by Annette Bening and Julianne Moore whose lives are disrupted when their teenage kids decide to seek out their previously unknown birth father (Mark Ruffalo) and bring him into their lives.

The film stars Robert Duvall, Bill Murray, Sissy Spacek and Lucas Black and marks the feature film debut of director Aaron Schneider. A true story based on the life of an eccentric hermit who lived forty years in the backwoods of Tennessee. Duvall's character Felix, wants to have a "living funeral" in which anyone whoever heard a story about him will come to tell their version of it. A hit at film festivals from Sundance to Cannes. The film is already being talked about as one of this year's great independent films audiences will love to embrace.

From acclaimed author Wendelin Van Draanen's best seller, it's a beautiful coming of age story set in 1963 about a two young adults who see their budding romantic relationship from two distinctly different points of view.
