Departures is KCET's hyper-local web documentary, community engagement tool and digital literacy program about the cultural history of Los Angeles' neighborhoods.
Zung Wu
Although in the last thirty years the Chinese community has begun to migrate east to cities such as Monterrey Park, Cerritos and others, Chinatown continues to be an entry point for Chinese and Southeast Asian immigrants to Los Angeles. Like early Cantonese migrants, Zung Wu came from the Pearl River Delta looking for the "Gam Saan"; we found him playing the Erhu, or Chinese Fiddle, in Chinatown's Main Plaza to make ends meet.
