Departures is KCET's hyper-local web documentary, community engagement tool and digital literacy program about the cultural history of Los Angeles' neighborhoods.
Angelina Saenz, Spanish-language kindergarten teacher at Aldama Elementary School
Angelina Sáenz is the Spanish teacher in the dual language immersion program at Aldama Elementary School in Highland Park, which began with two dual language kindergarten classes back in 2008. Practicing what she preaches, Saenz's kids go to Aldama and are growing up bilingual, making the case for cultural integration in Los Angeles and beyond. In "Reinterpreting Highland Park" she discusses the nature of the dual language program at Aldama Elementary and its effectiveness in the Highland Park community.
